Wahkiakum County is located in Southwest Washington, along the Columbia River. With about 4,000 people living here, it is a close-knit community of folks who actively support our schools and student activities. Wahkiakum School District serves approximately 300 K-8 students in Wahkiakum County and is located on a bluff in Cathlamet, Washington, overlooking the Lower Columbia River shipping channel — about 30 miles up-river from Astoria, Oregon, and the Pacific Ocean and a stunning 90-minute scenic drive from Portland, Oregon. 

 

Our small, rural community is friendly, caring and full of recreational activities for all ages, such as fishing, boating, hiking, swimming and camping, along with a growing community of working artists and musicians. We invite you to learn more about all that Wahkiakum County offers, then come visit one of Washington's most scenic counties and get to know us — really! On most any weekend, you'll find plenty to do including the 10-minute ride on the Wahkiakum County Ferry across the Columbia River to Oregon, enjoying the amazing array of locally grown produce, cheese, meats, plants and flowers at the Elochoman Marina Farmer's Market, taking in tons of fun events, driving around Puget Island and being amazed at all the open space and beautiful farms, and then just relaxing in one of our many beautiful places to stay on farms, on the river, or in town, in a vacation rental home, bed 'n breakfast, or an inn. You won't want to leave!
