Classified Negotiations Update
Wahkiakum School District values all employees and is committed to each and every one of them as well as the students we all serve. The School Board in particular, as elected officials in our community, and stewards of local and state tax dollars, are committed to a fair, equitable and sustainable solution.
Wahkiakum School District began informing employees of the District’s financial status on December 9, 2021 with a “State of the District” financial briefing to establish greater understanding and transparency of our financial status. The District was available to begin bargaining anytime last Spring or Summer. We successfully completed new agreements with both the Certificated (Teachers) bargaining unit and the Coaches Association. The Classified employee’s union leadership met with the District for the first time in late August but did not begin the formal negotiation process until September 2022 after their contract expired.
Over the past five years, the classified bargaining unit has received the following salary increases:
In 2017-2018 they received a 5.0% increase.
In 2018-2019 they received a 10.0% increase.
In 2019-2020 they received a 6.0% increase.
In 2020-2021 they received a 1.6% increase.
In 2021-2022 they received a 2.0% increase.
The School District also provides employees with medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance for those employees who meet the hourly eligibility established by the state.
