Congratulations, Blayne Edwards, 2-Time Class 2B/1B Wrestling State Champion!

Courtesy of Bill Wagner of The Daily News, Longview WA; Wahkiakum's Blayne Edwards breaks free from Kain Feltwell's grasp during their 113-pound 1A championship Edwards won his second state title in two years Six Mule wrestlers competed at the Wrestling Mat Classic XXIV at the Tacoma Dome on February 17/18.

Our own Blayne Edwards successfully defended his title, as reported by the Longview Daily News: "The first one, people say you got lucky," said Edwards, who scored a 12-1 major decision over Kain Feltwell of Liberty-Spangle in the finals after winning the 106-pound title last season. "The second time, it's like, oh, you did it two years in a row and went up a heavier weight class."

WSD Athletic Director, Marc Niemeyer had this to say about our Mule Wrestlers:

What a fantastic year for the Wahkiakum Mule Wrestlers/Coaches!!!!! Blayne Edwards was the 113lb STATE CHAMPION (2 time STATE CHAMPION). The team earned a top 10 finish nabbing 10th place for the first time in school history.

State participants for the Mules included the following: Blayne Edwards 113lbs, Luke Stacey 120lbs, Mason Mackey 126lbs, Alex Johnson 126lbs, Brandon Burdick 138lbs and Nate Cothren 145lbs. What a phenomenal season!!!!! If you haven't watched these wrestlers, most will be back next season and we look forward to a bright future! Go Mules!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pay-to-Participate:
We Welcome and Appreciate Your Donations

Photo: Wahkiakum High School Mules Football Stadium, Cathlamet, WA Given the continued effects of declining revenue sources, the School Board is continuing the policy of having extracurricular participants pay a fee.

High school student athletes will be charged $60 per sport and middle school student athletes will need to pay $30 per sport. Athletes must have their fee paid prior to their first contest and does not guarantee playing time.

Low income students who request assistance, may tap the "donation pool" for 50% of their fee.

Donations are welcome and should be delivered to the District Office. If desired, your donations can be earmarked to assist a specific extracurricular program, otherwise they will go to a general "pot of money." If you want to make a 100% donation for a particular athlete for a particular sport, we will honor your request.

If you have any questions about making a donation, please contact the School District office at 795-3971, or either school building. Thank you for your support!

Sponsorships Available for the Mules' Cheerleading Squad

Photo: Wahkiakum High School Mules Scoring Bell, Cathlamet, WA This school year, the Wahkiakum Mules Cheerleading Squad is working on being more involved in school activities and events throughout the community.

Some of the events planned include more pep assemblies, game nights, bonfires, a car smash, and more spectator-involved activities at sports functions.

To make these activities a reality, the Cheerleaders need Sponsors! When you sponsor the Cheerleaders, your name or organization's name will be displayed on a poster in the High School gym:

White Poster: $25 Donation
Red Poster: $50 Donation
